Megan Murphy Coaches First Place Moot Court Team

Lewis Johs proudly partnered with United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York Judge Joseph Bianco and the Nassau County Bar Association in their first annual 2016 Long Island Mentor Moot Court Tournament. Lewis Johs Associate Megan Murphy and their teacher David Scott coached Northport High School seniors Stephanie Besen, Julia McGinley, Courtney Garrison, and Sean Truehart the way to victory in arguing issues related to the Fourth Amendment and the All Writs Act, and arguing how those issues relate to our country’s crucial interests in national security. As part of the competition, the students had the honor of arguing before United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York Magistrate Judges Arlene Lindsay, Gary Brown, and Steven Locke. In addition to multiple practices held at Northport High School, Lewis Johs hosted the students at the office for an all-day practice event, where they received advice and assistance from attorneys experienced with appellate arguments. In addition to winning first place overall, Stephanie Besen also received the prestigious “best oralist award.”

We are so proud of these students’ accomplishments, and we thank Megan for all her efforts.  LJAA is honored to have been a part of this competition and Northport High School student’s great success!
