David Fink’s practice focuses on the representation of clients in complex civil litigation, transportation law, cyber law and regulatory and compliance matters. He defends corporate, commercial and individual clients, directly and through their insurance carriers, in state and federal courts involving commercial litigation and casualty defense litigation, including catastrophic trucking accidents, environmental matters, vehicular negligence, construction accidents, products liability and premises liability. David also advises individuals, companies, financial institutions on a wide variety of legal and regulatory and compliance matters. David is a member of the Lewis Johs Catastrophic Loss Response Team.
David is a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy JAG Corps reserves. Recently, from January 2013 to July 2013, David was deployed to Afghanistan for service in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. While he was in Afghanistan, David mentored Afghan National Security Prosecutors, Judges and Ministry Officials on a daily basis to implement and build the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan’s rule of law capacity and infrastructure.
David began his legal career trying cases on active duty in the United States Navy as a military prosecutor. He has successfully tried misdemeanor and felony level criminal cases before military juries and judges. On the civil side, David also defended the Department of the Navy in complex cases in trial and appellate courts across the country. David completed his first deployment in 2008 with the USS NASSAU Strike Group where he was the sole legal advisor for over 2,800 sailors and marines across seven ships. He managed eight afloat legal offices and provided real-time legal interpretations on the rules of engagement, law of the sea, criminal and administrative law.
Prior to joining Lewis Johs, David was a Trial Attorney for a federal financial institution regulatory agency in Washington, D.C. As a Trial Attorney, David, administered civil and administrative enforcement actions, conducted civil fraud investigations and represented the agency in federal and state courts, before administrative agencies, at mediations, and in arbitration. He possesses extensive experience with operational and financial issues related to legal and regulatory compliance, securities, derivatives, lending, insurance, accounting procedures and the management of financial institutions and related entities.
David is admitted to practice law in the State of New York, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the United States District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. He holds a Master of Laws from Georgetown University Law Center and a Juris Doctor degree from Northeastern University School. He is a Certified Management Accountant (Inactive) and he holds a Masters degree in Accounting from Old Dominion University, where he was the 2007 Jack W. Kerr, Jr. Outstanding Graduate Taxation Student Award winner. David received his undergraduate degree in Business Management from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
